Dream Theater‘s drumming phenom, Mike Portnoy, is to drum for Avenged Sevenfold‘s new album. The band’s drummer has recently passed away, and Portnoy has been asked to aid them during this tough time. Portnoy has accepted the request with pure class: “I want their fans to realize that I’m not trying to step into or fill The Rev’s shoes…I’m just merely lacing ’em up for him!”

Honestly, I find Avenged Sevenfold quite stale and repetitive. But I might look into this upcoming album; I’m quite interested to see how Portnoy will approach their style of music. Death is always tragic and I’m glad Mike is sharing his heart with the band.

Speaking of death, there was a close call nearly a week ago when Epica‘s tourbus crashed. Apparently, a car came spinning towards the bus and bus driver Dave Mabry swerved from a head-on collision, saving the day. Still, the car was completely wrecked and the band members were tossed around, but thankfully no one was hurt. The bus underwent some quick repair and was able to get back on the road. Epica continued their tour; good for them!
