Queensrÿche – Dedicated to Chaos: Review

June 20, 2011 12 comments

Dedicated to Chaos is the upcoming release by the iconic progressive metal Queensrÿche. This is to be done through Roadrunner Records on June 28. Sad to say, the apple has fallen quite a ways from the tree; it’s not even metal! But that is not the issue here. Perhaps, I should reword my earlier statement… it’s not even good!

Pain – You Only Live Twice: Review

June 18, 2011 Leave a comment

On June 3, the most recent Pain album, You Only Live Twice, was released . Funnily enough, the band’s name is an excellent descriptor of the music. You Only Live Twice reminded me how excruciatingly horrible music can be. I should have foreseen it based on the amateurish tone of the album art. But this is a definite and much-needed wake-up call: there is still bad music! Brace yourselves…

Symphony X – Iconoclast: Review

June 16, 2011 Leave a comment

Many, such as myself, have been waiting for too long for the Symphony X album to come out. Well good news everyone: Iconoclast is out on June 17! It has been a whole two years since the band has released any material (the most recent being the LP Anno Domini High Definition). And although one would hope that the wait warranted a full-length release, this EP is sure to please many despite its limited duration.

Devin Townsend – Ghost: Review

June 6, 2011 1 comment

Ghost is to be released alongside Deconstruction on June 20, thus completing The Devin Townsend Project. This is indeed quite a juxtaposition with its sister album, which was a heavy, unorthodox metal album. This is more laid back and easier on the ears, yet still retains the Devin Townsend sound. Though I much preferred the coincidental release, Ghost is surely a fine album in and of itself.

Devin Townsend – Deconstruction: Review

June 5, 2011 Leave a comment

The final two albums of the Devin Townsend Project are to be released on June 20. The first to be reviewed here is Deconstruction (the second is entitled Ghost). For those who haven’t been keeping up with the Devin Townsend Project, it is basically a four album collection which Townsend has been releasing over the past couple years. The first two have been well-received. As for the next two… well let’s just say here is an excellent start.
