Dedicated to Chaos is the upcoming release by the iconic progressive metal Queensrÿche. This is to be done through Roadrunner Records on June 28. Sad to say, the apple has fallen quite a ways from the tree; it’s not even metal! But that is not the issue here. Perhaps, I should reword my earlier statement… it’s not even good!
Chris Broderick recently had an interview with Guitar World. For those who don’t know, Broderick is the current guitarist for Megadeth, and he sure is a piece of talent. He describes his guitar-history, his current mindset behind the instrument, and his dreams of the future. For those of you who won’t watch this, he basically says love music and play smart. And for those who will, here it is:
On April 20, the latest album by the glam metal band Ratt was released. The album is entitled Infestation, and it is the first Ratt album released in over a decade. Though the past few of the band’s albums have been met with negative criticism, this one certainly won’t be. It is not a spectacular release, but it is a strong way to return to the music scene.
So I was listening to Dream Theater’s “The Mirror” from the album Awake. Did you know that the first minute or so has guitarist John Petrucci playing the same note and the same progression over and over again? One whole minute straight! Don’t feel bad if you didn’t, most people probably need that pointed out for them. But that’s progressive for you; thinking man’s music. It’s quite neat, check it out:
On May 11, the rock star, Meat Loaf, is to release his upcoming album, Hang Cool Teddy Bear. It is the eleventh studio album for the artist (the first being released in 1971). And though the man is in his sixties, the album rages with youthful attitude. However, it feels more immature and annoying than identifiably youthful. Perhaps, this is the intent, but it does not work for me.
