On April 12, Between the Buried and Me released an EP which is a sort of introduction to an upcoming concept album. It is entitled The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues. It is a mere three songs, but all of which total a solid half hour. Personally, I preferred Thomas Giles solo effort. Still, this is a solid release from the main project.
Tesseract‘s first full-length release, One, was made available on March 22 through Century Media. The album cover is enigmatic and somewhat plain; a good representation of TesseracT at this point. I was really hoping to enjoy this album more than I did, but One is still a decent album.
July 27 is the release date for the upcoming Avenged Sevenfold album entitled Nightmare. Due to the recent death of the band drummer, Dream Theater’s legendary Mike Portnoy has stepped up for the role. On his part, he insured the band and the fans that he would do his best to stay true to The Rev (former drummer) and keep it as an Avenged Sevenfold album. And no doubt, this is an Avenged Sevenfold album, for better or for worse.
On March 2, Roadrunner released a collaborative album called God of War: Blood and Metal for the upcoming video game. The album includes Killswitch Engage, Trivium, Dream Theater, Taking Dawn, Opeth, and Mutiny Within. I formerly expressed my concern for the quality of this album due to the fact that the transfer from video games to other media often results in failure. Though that is not the case here, it is not quite a success.
Though they’ve been together since 2002, Mutiny Within is only now releasing their eponymous debut album. It is due on February 23. Some are very excited, others are unimpressed; I am somewhere in between.
