Riverside – Shrine of New Generation Slaves: Review

January 22, 2013 Leave a comment

Rating: 4.5/5

I’d like to take a minute to brag about Riverside. I mean they’re essentially one of my favorite bands of all time (no exaggeration). There’s not a release in their catalog that I feel is less than great, and that includes LPs, EPs, and frontman Duda’s side projects (haven’t listened to many single releases or live albums by them). In my eyes, they have a 100% hit accuracy when it comes to their discography, and off the top of my head I cannot recall any other band for whom I would make the same statement (Devin… Physicist… So close…). But this is why there was such great internal anxiety when diving into this album blind. It was a leap of faith not knowing whether or not salvation awaited (FYI, it did).

Matthew Good – Lights of Endangered Species: Review

July 11, 2011 2 comments

On May 31, Matthew Good‘s latest album was released. Lights of Endangered Species is the fifth record to be released by the artist since his departure from the Matthew Good Band. It is different from much of his other works, yet its quality is still at a respectable high. With this wonderful release, Matt Good proves he is that good!

Yes – Fly from Here: Review

June 30, 2011 5 comments

The band is Yes; the album is Fly from Here. The legendary pioneers of progressive rock are back after a whole decade of rest! Queensrÿche – Dedicated to Chaos: Review

June 20, 2011 12 comments

Dedicated to Chaos is the upcoming release by the iconic progressive metal Queensrÿche. This is to be done through Roadrunner Records on June 28. Sad to say, the apple has fallen quite a ways from the tree; it’s not even metal! But that is not the issue here. Perhaps, I should reword my earlier statement… it’s not even good!

Riverside – Memories in My Head (EP): Review

June 8, 2011 Leave a comment

Riverside is to release an EP entitled Memories in My Head on June 20. It has been a whole two years since the band has released any material (the most recent being the LP Anno Domini High Definition). And although one would hope that the wait warranted a full-length release, this EP is sure to please many despite its limited duration.

Devin Townsend – Ghost: Review

June 6, 2011 1 comment

Ghost is to be released alongside Deconstruction on June 20, thus completing The Devin Townsend Project. This is indeed quite a juxtaposition with its sister album, which was a heavy, unorthodox metal album. This is more laid back and easier on the ears, yet still retains the Devin Townsend sound. Though I much preferred the coincidental release, Ghost is surely a fine album in and of itself.

Journey – Eclipse: Review

May 31, 2011 Leave a comment

On May 24, the worldwide popular Journey released their latest album. It is the second album to feature vocalist Arnel Pineda and is entitled Eclipse. The band had a huge dip in their career in the 90’s and early 00’s, and without their former vocal talent Steve Perry, I honestly did not expect too much out of this release. However, I was most definitely wrong in doing so.
