Young Justice Dies Young

January 28, 2013 Leave a comment

Young Justice, my second favorite currently-running TV series (first being Mad Men, third being perhaps Game of Thrones), has expired. After all the unnecessary hiatuses causing intermittent grief towards loyal audience members (such as myself), a certain network decided to discontinue what I’ve considered one of the greatest superhero shows ever created. It is another disheartening defeat suffered by the brilliant Greg Weisman, creator of this masterpiece, the other which I refer to being The Spectacular Spiderman series. The greatest shame is the unfulfilled potential which cannot be denied by anyone to have seen the show. The vast scope and long-term plot developments can now only be dreamed of. The never-to-happen actualization truly brings tears to my eyes, lateral motion to my head, and fist-shaking to this under-privileged, under-educated, under-satisfied world. Thanks to all who have supported this fantastic phenomenon throughout its lifetime and curses to those responsible for its great downfall; I hope a host(ess) mistakenly relinquishes your dinner reservations at a somewhat-fancy restaurant, semi-ruining your wonderful evening.

Anyways, Mr. Weisman, best of luck in the future and don’t give up the dream! I’ll be keeping an eye on you.

Hello World

Yowza… Ahem… Hello, blog… Long time no see…

I do believe that my disinterest and expansive distancing from this writing outlet of mine was largely attributed to the overwhelming propriety I had attempted to maintain in the reviewing of musical releases, as well as the goal in doing so inevitably coercing me into listening to music I was not yet ready for. So this is attempt two, and with all proper experimentation, all but one variable is constant to the greatest extent possible – in this case, the manipulated variable is formality. And no, this is not me being overly formal… it’s actually how I talk (or at least type).

But anyways, some albums I’ve missed out on bragging about in the past while (band – album):

  • Pain of Salvation – Road Salt Two
  • Opeth – Heritage
  • Dream Theater – A Dramatic Turn of Events
  • Vektor – Outer Isolation
  • Koji Kondo – The Legend Of Zelda 25th Anniversary Soundtrack
  • Anathema – Weather Systems
  • Between the Buried and Me – Parallax II: Hypersleep Dialogues
  • Haken – Visions
  • Devin Townsend – Epicloud
  • Threshold – March of Progress
  • Änglagård – Viljans Öga

And that’s in no order at all. But they span from 2011 to 2012 so hope that helps… Anyways, I hope that I can keep up this casual blogging of sorts because there are a lot of albums out there that deserve the extra 2 hits per day that this site produces (give or take 2 hits). There’s one that actually I feel like bragging about right now in a somewhat more boastful spotlight… But for the next 30 minutes, give those aforementioned ones a quick speed run. You know, catch yourself up on a year-plus of material…

Starting Anew

January 1, 2012 1 comment

Hello… it’s been quite a while, eh? With The Golden Bird, I had been going really steady for about two whole years until I hit a wall. I think the reason for my discontinuation was that I was trying too hard to make The Golden Bird a “professional review” site, or something similar to that nature. I felt the need to incorporate some sort of grading systems (for which I used letters) which forced me to create meaty chunks of text per album reviewed. Doing so consequentially pushed a more formulaic writing style and a necessity to discuss that which I didn’t want to in order to justify myself. Also, with the whole “professional” demeanor, my writing felt rather tight-ass and wound-up… well, no more of that.

In order to save the blog, I need to make some changes. For example, the monthly recaps are actually going to be monthly recaps, rather than the detailed documentation of last month’s happenings. Perhaps I’ll keep the album of the month thing going, and maybe a diary of my favorites; I have yet to make such decisions. But more importantly, reviews are no longer going to be graded. I’ll just say a few words about whatever albums I’d like to talk about (like a wedding or a funeral) and give some sort of recommendation. Opinions always change over time; this way, I’ll be able to revisit and rediscuss subjects without officially shitting on my past-self. And more importantly, I won’t be officially shitting on the bands that would have received poor reviews because, though they might be labelled so for convenience and consistency sakes, they aren’t really reviews.

Anyways, that’s that and I’ll hopefully be seeing you around this year! I wish you all a happy new year. Just like every other year, make it count!

Like robot unicorns? Like Blind Guardian? Like Both? Not much else to say about this epic game… except that it’s pretty meh. But whatever, here it is:

Down Tempo

I’m sad to say that the blog will be down temporarily because my main computer has broken down. It is a Studio XPS 9000 which arrived at my doorstep this January. A 1.5-hour conversation with Dell technical support began with me saying, “I think my hard drive is broken,” and ended with him saying, “I think your hard drive is broken”. Thank you for your valuable input!

Anyways, I absolutely despise the computer I am currently working on, so I will be unable to post until my primary desktop is repaired (hopefully this coming weekend). This is truly bad timing; I was hoping to get out early reviews of the upcoming albums by Kayo Dot and Wuthering Heights. I would have liked to keep this blog running fast and strong, but for now The Golden Bird might be somewhat down tempo.

Initiation

I’ve always found it difficult to stay up to date with the music I listen to. Hopefully, I can bring some convenience to whoever this may concern. The Golden Bird is a project of mine intended to help me keep up with my music (artists, albums, record labels, tours, etc.). To do so, I’ll be posting news updates as frequently as possible. Perhaps this will make everyone’s lives easier.

But I also feel I have much musical insight to offer. I’ll be writing in-depth album and concert reviews to give my personal approach and interpretation towards music. Of course, everyone has a different mindset and I expect much disagreement towards my opinions. However, I encourage criticism and communal discussion. Please participate so we can all move forward together.

Yes, my main focus will be music (particularly progressive and metal), but from time to time I’ll go astray. Occasionally, I’ll write on random topics (TV, movies, games, news, etc.), so be sure to check back from time to time even if your musical interests contrast mine.

I suppose that covers what I have to say for now, but I’ll see you real soon.

PS – everything below is from my former blog, Double True.
