Bloodbound – Unholy Cross: Review

July 19, 2011 Leave a comment

Bloodbound released their latest album on March 18. It was done so through AFM records and is named Unholy Cross. I have formerly stated in other reviews that bands of the heavy-power metal genre often fall into the trap of conformity; Unholy Cross is no exception. Fortunately for the band, the music is at a higher level than the average heavy-power metal record.

Pharaoh – Ten Years (EP): Review

June 12, 2011 Leave a comment

June 7 is the date when the power metal group Pharaoh released their latest album. The record is Ten Years and was released through Cruz Del Sur records. This is my first encounter with any music from the band and I was quite pleased. I had heard many great things and though they are not fully embodied through this album, it is surely shown here that there is merit to the compliments.

USX – The Valley Path: Review

May 19, 2011 Leave a comment

May 31 is the release date for the upcoming USX (or U.S. Christmas if you prefer) album entitled The Valley Path. They most definitely are pushing the limits with this one: a single 40 minute track.  I mean seriously, these guys have balls. Their courage and willingness for risk is to be very fond of; their result is not so much the case.

U.D.O. – Rev-Raptor: Review

May 18, 2011 Leave a comment

Rev-Raptor is the title of the upcoming release by U.D.O. due to be released on May 20 through AFM records. I really wish I could say more about this album, but in all honesty I know little about the band and did not know what to expect going into it. Coming out of it, I was neither pleased nor displeased; neither impressed nor unimpressed; neither happy nor unhappy. This album is neither good nor bad: it is very average.

May 11, 2011 Leave a comment

On May 23, Wolverine is to release their fourth and most recent album. It is entitled Communication Lost and will be released through Candlelight Records. This is the first record which I had listened to from the band. All I knew was that they were progressive metal. That in itself gave me high hopes and expectations; I was not let down.

Twisted Tower Dire – Make it Dark: Review

May 9, 2011 Leave a comment

Make it Dark is the newest album by the heavy metal band Twisted Tower Dire. It was released on May 3 through Cruz Del Sur Records. Looking at the cover art, one can certainly guess that the band is aiming to release some old-school, badass metal. It is really just something that is fun and loyal to the style and its most vigilant followers. You know, something that the band does not want to take too seriously – neither should you.

Argus – Boldly Stride the Doomed: Review

May 7, 2011 Leave a comment

On May 3, Argus released their newest album through Cruz Del Sur records entitled Boldly Stride the Doomed. Their eponymous debut was met with such high response, one cannot help but have high expectations for the follow-up. However, despite being far from a bad album, I am somewhat disappointed with this second release; the hype is unfortunately unmatched.

Cynthesis – DeEvolution: Review

April 20, 2011 Leave a comment

On April 19, the progressive metal band Cynthesis released their debut album through Sensory Records entitled DeEvolution. Though progressive metal is a very broad, loosely defined genre, it is impossible to classify this album as anything else. DeEvolution is a solid definition of the characteristics of prog, but not so much the outer limits.
